Agronews: Olive oil with a scent of ancient values from Kyklopas Olive Mill!
In Thrace (Northern Greece), near the Cave of Homer’s Cyclops and the Roman built Via Egnatia (the main road connecting Constantinople and Rome), can be found one of the oldest olive groves in the Mediterranean, from which the Kelidis family has been producing their multi-award winning Kyklopas (Cyclops in Greek) olive oil since 1982.
It is a creation of Argyris Kelidis, who has been immersed in the world of olives since childhood, side-by side with his parents. Kyklopas early harvest olive oil is a mono-varietal extra-virgin olive oil of very low acidity produced with olives from the local Makri variety of olives and pressed within four to eight hours of harvest. In December 2018 it is was included in the 50 top olive oils according to the magazine Olive Fruit.
In the same month, Kyklopas early harvest olive oil achieved another important distinction, gaining 33rd position worldwide in the EVOO World Rankings. It was the first time that a Greek olive oil attained such a high position, and this was among 9,522 oils from all corners of the globe.
Kyklopas S.A. is a family business from Thrace and began its course in 1950. Argyris Kelidis grew up among olive trees and learnt about the world of olives from his father and mother. Having inheriting a solid foundation and deep knowledge, he and his wife Niki Kelidou decided to establish a family olive mill in 1982.
