Mykonos olive oil tasting. A journey into the magical world of olives!
Anita Zahou is the kind of person that likes to take risks. She sets goals and works towards achieving them. It's not an easy journey. There are obstacles, but she is learning to get past them and move forward. Anita Zahou is an agronomist, professional olive oil taster (educated in Greece and Spain) and holistic wellness coach. She comes from Messinia. The olive trees were and are her great love. Her childhood memories are connected to these amazing trees as she characterizes them. She felt that somehow, at some point, she would come back to them. And she did.
“In the seminars, when we talk about oil, I talk to people at the same time about healthy eating, self-care and well-being. We need to change the way we see olive oil. Foreigners already see it as something valuable. There are categories of olive oil. They are not all good for our health. If I want to take care of myself, I have to invest in a better olive oil. So, I have to educate others on why it is worth paying for. You have to be able to enjoy it uncooked.”
And when the journey of tasting-olive oil comes to an end, Anita feels satisfied, because she too has contributed to her field of work. “Every time the seminar ends, because I socialize with people from all over the planet, I find that they leave with a love for Greek olive oil. And I feel like I've done something for my country. They hug me, kiss me, because they learn things about themselves, their health, their everyday life. And I'm like, ‘look at that. It's worth it after all. It's worth the risk. It's worth it, for people's love and acceptance.’ They email me in the winter and take pictures of what olive oil they cook with and why they chose it. I create olive oil ambassadors all over the world.”
Anita started a new project in the winter amid the quarantine. Every Thursday on her YouTube channel she uploads an interview with a Greek producer. “Because I was talking to producers every day, I thought about what I could do to help them at this difficult time. So, every Thursday on my YouTube channel I upload an interview with a Greek producer.”
