In terms of international recognition of superior quality, Greek extra virgin olive oil got off on the right foot in 2017. Outstanding Greek produce, in the hands of exemplary olive mills, managed to enter the list of the world's best olive oils, as well as distinguishing themselves in the most demanding international competitions.
While the national economy is under scrutiny, the Greek olive oil passed their exams with flying colours, so to speak: 14 home grown gems tallied their forces with 7,532 samples of extra virgin olive oil submitted to international competitions, turning out to be amongst the world's most highly awarded in 2016. This is a major distinction for our national produce, which takes Greece to fifth place on the map of leading olive oil countries.
